Detailed Neighborhood Map and Live Search Interface; Time-Aware Search Results
1 Interactive Digital Map
The map shows detail at the building and shop level, as well as items located by search, and events submitted by users.
2 Navigation Tools
The toolbar provides navigation tools to control the area covered by the map and its magnification.
3 "Find" Mode and Live Search
In "Find" mode, search results are returned and mapped instantly as you type. The search is always limited to items in the current map view. The search can cover names, categories, addresses, and user-contributed keywords.
For example, in the picture, someone has searched for "sushi". Places matching this term are listed in a list box and also highlighted with red dots on the map.
4 Time-Aware Search Results
LiveVillage knows the business hours of many of the shops it depicts. Search results depicted in green are open at the time of search, and those in red are closed.

TV (TimeView) Mode for Visual Display of Business Hours
|
5 "TimeView" Mode
How long is it open? Clicking the TV icon above the list enters TimeView mode. In TimeView mode, search results are placed in a sortable list that visually depicts the business hours of matching items.
This allows easy visual comparison among each shop, as well as comparison to the current map time (indicated by the orange line).
6 Detail View for Selected Item
As with other list views in LiveVillage, selecting an item in the list provides additional information.

"List" Mode Lists Everything in the Current View
|
7 "List" Mode
In List mode, everything in the current map view is placed in the list - not just the names of items, but the categories represented too, as well as keywords and street names represented.
Categories are in bold Red; street names in Green, and keywords in italic Red.
8 Matching items
Clicking on any term in the list causes matching items to be highlighted on the map and in the list. Here we clicked on "Restaurant", so onscreen restaurants are listed.
9 Color Coding of Open and Closed Status
This close-up view allows a better look at how shops are color-coded according to their current open or closed status (or their status with respect to the user-specified system time). The color
scheme can also be user specified. Here, green means open, red means closed, and yellow means the hours are unknown.

TimeView with Events: Like a TV Guide, But With Local Places Instead of Channels
|
10 TimeView Mode for Events
Let's find out what's happening tonight. The map clock has been set to Monday May 22 (pretend that's tonight), and we are only interested in events,
so we have checked the Events box and unchecked the Places box. The tab indicates we're in List mode, so only Events will be listed.
11 Time View, or "TV Guide"
All events located in the current map view, and happening on the selected day, are placed in a time schedule.
Here there's a mix of "repeating" events, such as regularly scheduled happy hours, and "one-time" events such as author events.

Visual Themes, and a Late Night Example
|
12 "Dark" Visual Theme
A collection of user-selectable and user-definable visual themes mimic the turn of the earth and the change of the seasons. Here it's "Night".
13 Is it too late for dinner?
If it's 11 pm Monday night, and you're looking for Thai food, Jai Thai is your only hope!
